Trends for Spring: Shine on, You Crazy Diamonds

Shine is not just for night anymore

Shine is not just for night anymore

The cold gray days and long dark nights of winter make me hungry for the sun and spring. And along with vegetable gardens, I long for spring clothes. I feed this desire by tearing through fashion magazines and blogs, looking for what promise to be the best trends of the warm weather seasons. One of my favorites is the appearance of metallics for day, especially in accessories. Handbags, shoes, scarves, belts are all polished silver and gold and pewter, ready to reflect the warm sun and add a touch of elegance to any outfit. Modern metal can be in the shape of an accent piece, or can dominate an entire outfit. I prefer an accent touch myself, as it is difficult to pull off an entire outfit of shine, shine, shine. I find these metallic pieces work best when contrasted with a soft fabric or a dark color. I also love the trend to lower, chunkier heels and flats. I love towering heels as much as the next person, but practicality demands something I can wear day into night since I’m on my feet and moving about so much. Imagine my thrill when I saw the gorgeous flat that Marc Jacobs has designed, in wonderful patterns and colors and a pointed toe that elongates the leg. Come spring, we’ll be looking for structured bags in metallics and lower shoes that combine comfort and style. I can’t wait, can you?

Tra-la-la-la-la, Get Fitted for a Bra

Did you know that 8 out of 10 women wear the wrong size bra? That’s a tragedy, when you consider the critical role our undergarments and shapewear play in making our clothes look fabulous.

The sad truth is that the majority of women in the U.S. have never had a fitting.  You can’t look your best unless your foundational garments are right. If you’ve never had a fitting, hie thee to your favorite department store (Nordstrom and Lord and Taylor come to mind immediately), or, better yet, to a small specialty shop and get measured. It’s quick and painless, and arms you with the information you need to buy the correct size bra.

Better yet still, Doris’ Closet will be hosting Susan Lenderking from Essential Bodywear, who will be fitting our customers and helping them select the undergarments that are right for them. If you will be in the neighborhood the weekend of January 26, call us at 410-747-4956 or email us at nancy@doriscloset.com for an appointment.

Remember, ladies, if we’re going to save the ta-ta’s, then make sure they look right.
